What to Expect for the Week of June 14, 2021
- Continuation of the Drainage Installation along Main Street, from the 85/135 intersection to East Main Street (52 Main Street, 22 Main Street, 14 Main Street and 10 Main Street.)
- Continuation of the Drainage Installation along West Main Street (from 1 West Main Street to 111 Main Street)
- MassDOT Survey Crews to continue to locate limits of easements within the corridor from Ash Street to Wood Street
- Delivery of Drainage Materials
This work may impact traffic and require lane and sidewalk closures limiting access to driveways and entrances to businesses.

Hopkinton Planning Board Vacancy Announcement
Planning Board Vacancy due to the resignation of Muriel Kramer who was elected to the Select Board – Interested parties must be a registered voter in the Town of Hopkinton and should apply online by June 22, 2021. The term of office will expire at the May, 2022 annual town election.
School Committee reviews challenging year, adjusts vacation policy
The School Committee met Thursday to review the successes of the year during the pandemic, elect new leadership and discuss the administrator vacation policy. Nancy Cavanaugh was unanimously elected chair. Previous chair Amanda Fargiano was unanimously elected to serve as vice chair, the position Cavanaugh previously held.
One major policy implemented was a nondiscrimination policy. This included an anti-racism pledge, the inclusion of a liaison from the Hopkinton Freedom Team (HFT) and attendance of School Committee members at two HFT active bystander trainings.
Water and Sewer Rate Hearing Public Notice
The Select Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 11, 2021 at 7:35 p.m., at Town Hall, 18 Main Street, Hopkinton, to set Sewer and Water Rates for the period of July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, pursuant to the Special Act establishing the Department of Public Works.
ConCom fines Legacy Farms trail builder, continues Chamberlain/Whalen discussions
Fines were imposed on the Legacy Farms trail project because sediments were eroding beyond the limit of work and into the stream channels of Hopkinton and Ashland. However, the commission voted unanimously to hold them into abeyance, which infuriated a resident.
The project had been fined in 2018 as well, according to commission chair Jeff Barnes. The fines imposed initially were $600 a day per condition violated for six days, plus a $300 fine for one day of the project being in violation.
Developer introduces Springwood-area subdivision proposals but acknowledges plans actually are for solar
The Planning Board on Monday considered two preliminary subdivision proposals that brought concerns from both the board and the public as a “bait and switch” to preserve the zoning for a potential solar array development.
Matt Cote represented the applicant, Equestrian Realty. The two subdivision plans are right next to each other — abutting the eastern edge of the the Springwood development off Chestnut Street — and are related.
Hopkinton’s very first LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade June 26 by Hopkinton freedom team
The Hopkinton Freedom Team, in collaboration with the Hopkinton Youth Commission, will host Hopkinton’s first LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade on Saturday, June 26, from 2-3 p.m. at the Hopkinton High School outdoor track. The Parks & Recreation Commission met in person Monday for the first time since the pandemic, although there was a remote option available for those who could not attend. Several topics were discussed, including progress on the dog park, the need for removal of trees on the Town Common, and the opening of Sandy Beach.
